(March 30, 2009) – The usually quiet town of Cuenca, Batangas, famous for its bakers and bakeries, suddenly had a fiesta this afternoon as one of its
favorite sons, Msgr. Emeterio Chaves celebrated his golden jubilee as priest. In a rare event caused by a mixed up, the three bishops who attended and concelebrated the thanksgiving mass, gave a five minute sharing. Apparently, nobody told any of the three to be the homilist, and in a rare gesture, all offered to say something for the occasion. Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales gave his first, followed by Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles and then retired Auxiliary Bishop Salvador Quizon. Read the rest of this entry »

- His Eminence, Gaudencio Cardinal B. Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, officiated at the solemn blessing and consecration of the church of the 56th parish of the Archdiocese of Lipa in a ceremony attended by other church and civil leaders of this city. The Church of Nuestra Senora dela Soledad has been previously blessed during its canonical erection last December 10, 2008, separating its from its mother parish, Parish of St. John, the Evangelist, Tanauan City. The new parish is comprised of three barangays – Darasa, Banjo East and Banjo West. The Parish is seated at Barangay Darasa, along the national highway, in a lot donated by the Dolor Family, headed by art-patron, banker and noted philanthrophist Danilo L. Dolor. BBC-Lipa & Archdiocese of Lipa Promise to Include Families of AFP’s enlisted men in programs

(March 12,2009) – The Bishop-Businessmen’s Conference -Lipa Chapter (BBC-Lipa) has agreed to include the families of retired AFP enlisted men in their livelihood programs, through the existing projects of Pondong Batangan and the Social Action Center of the Archdiocese. This was the assurance given by no less than the Archbishop of Lipa, Most Rev. Ramon C. Arguelles, as chair of BBC-Lipa in its regular meeting held at his residence last March 12. BBC-National Executive Director, Ms. Belle Beluan, made the appeal to the local BBC chapter as she annoucned that the BBC-National has adopted this as part of their project for the families of retired enlisted personnel of the AFP. (March 13, 2008) – The Commission on Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Jaro, through its chairman Fr. Ryan Teves, invited Lipa’s top priest-mediamen to shared their experience in their broadcast ministry in the Archdiocese of Lipa. Fr. Nonie Dolor, Lipa Archdicoesan Director of Social Communications, and Fr. Ilde Dimaano, Director of DWAM-FM, Spirit Radio 99.1, were guest speakers at the 3rd Msgr. Archbishop Joins Group in Asking for Halt in Mining Exploration
March 6, 2009(March 6, 2009) – Citing geologists’ admission that in our country, there has yet to be a showcase of good mining and that the negative effects had far outweighed its purported economic gains, a forum called “Ating Paglipunan . . . Pagmimina sa Batangas” called on authorities to put a stop to large scale mining, especially in the on-going mining exploration by Mindoro Resource Limited, a Canadian-based mining firm, in Barangay Balibago, Lobo, Batangas. Instead, the Bukluran para sa Inang Kalikasan (BUKAL), a province-based environment group, called on government to help revive the atis-industry, which Lobo is famous for. Participants to the forum scored the local and national government for issuing five exploration permits and six MPSAs that would cover the towns of Lobo, Taysan, Rosario, San Juan and even Batangas City, not to mention the on-going similar controversy at Calatagan.
