More Vicariates and Parishes Try CiDEs

Since the  Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Lipa decided to promote the Circles of Discernment for Elections and Beyond (CiDE),  Fr. Nonie Dolor,  the main promoter of this Dilaab-inspired response to  ”evangelize politics” and give “pastoral accompaniment” to lay people in their political involvement as enunciated by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in their July pastoral statement “Lay participation in Politics and Peace Building”,  was kept busy moving from one vicariate to another, and even visiting parishes to give the orientation for CiDE.

Last November 7,  310 participants from Vicariate 2 gathered at spacious Our Lady of Caysasay Gymn for a whole day seminar-workshop. The representatives of nine parishes, mostly from the Parish Pastoral Assembly and religious organizations, made 7 circles, since there were seven towns represented.  Fr. Lito Malibiran, Lemery parish priests gave a doze of video presentation, depicting the present political realities.  Fr. Nonie Dolor painstakingly explained the different role of the clergy and the laity in politics.  He batted for the full involvement of the laity as it is “the duty of the lay faithful to directly engaged in politics” and the clergy to maintain a non-partisan role in making sure that the elections be peaceful, clean and credible.   Fr. Gami Balita, Vicar Forane, personally accompanied the group during the entire exercise.  Other parish priests lent their presence to inspire their lay partners in this  endeavor,  fully supported by Lipa archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles.

The following day,  Fr. Dolor was orienting lay leaders of Vicariate V gathered at the San Sebastian Parish hall.  He was held into a lively and animated discussion on  the challenges of Christians in evangelizing thee political culture.  The good priest emphasized “personal conversion” as the starting point of their involvement in social change.  ”There are a lot to change in our existing political culture of political patronage.  Our Bishops pointed this out in their pastoral exhortation in 1997 — politics, as practiced in our country, is doing us harm as a nation!” After explaining the Nominal Group Technique,  he bid them goodbye to motor to nearby Padre Garcia Parish.

Here,  there were more young people than the elders.  Fr. Ferdie Jumaod, OSJ welcomed them.  Bro. Ading Tejada of Ibaan gave the orientation to CiDE.  Fr. Nonie Dolor facilitated the NGT with six circles of 50 participants getting the feel of the process.  The adult lay leaders promised to bring this to the barangay level.

Paring Batangas Failed to Defend General Champion Title

(October 23, 2009) – Paring Batangas fell one point short to Paring Lucena as the Batangas clergy failed to defend the general championship title they held for the past two years.  This despite the 40s and above recovered the title in basketball,  where their 39s and below yielded the tile and settled for the runner-up trophy in the same sport.  Fr. Oscar Andal, reporting to DWAL-FM program “Dito Po Sa Atin”,  also disclosed that the next Southern Luzon Tagalog Region (SOLTARE) sportfest will be held next year with Lipa as host.  It will be remembered that 2010 is the centennial year of the local church of Lipa.

“The players vowed to regain the title as we host this event for the second time,” Fr. Chancellor quoted the players from Lipa.  If ever,  this will be the fourth staging of this event,  which was first hosted by Lipa, then Lucena, and this year by the Diocese of Boac.

“Priest, Sign of Unity of the Christian Community,” Reminds Archbishop Arguelles

(April 7, 2009) –  Sounding more at ease with his priests,  Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles reminded his priests that they are signs of unity of the Christian faithful in their parishes,  just as the Bishop is the sacrament of unity in the Archdiocese.  This was the gist of his homily delivered during the Chrism Mass held during Holy Tuesday, a tradition in the Archdiocese of Lipa, departing from its Holy thursday morning schedule.  He explained this also citing the distance of the parishes that priests would have to go back to if this rite is celebrated as the liturgical calendar suggest. “For pastoral reason,  the Archdiocese of Lipa celebrates this Mass of the Chrism during Holy Tuesday,”  he explained.

BBC-Lipa & Archdiocese of Lipa Promise to Include Families of AFP’s enlisted men in programs

 

 

(March 12,2009) –  The Bishop-Businessmen’s Conference -Lipa Chapter (BBC-Lipa) has agreed to include the families of retired AFP enlisted men in their livelihood programs, through the existing projects of Pondong Batangan and the Social Action Center of the Archdiocese.  This was the assurance given by no less than the Archbishop of Lipa, Most Rev. Ramon C. Arguelles, as chair of BBC-Lipa in its regular meeting held at his residence last March 12.  BBC-National Executive Director, Ms. Belle Beluan, made the appeal to the local BBC chapter as she annoucned that the BBC-National has adopted this as part of their project for the families of retired enlisted personnel of the AFP.

Lipa Media Directors Shared Experience with Iloilo church media workers

(March 13, 2008) –  The Commission on Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Jaro, through its chairman Fr. Ryan Teves, invited Lipa’s top priest-mediamen to shared their experience in their broadcast ministry in the Archdiocese of Lipa.  Fr. Nonie Dolor, Lipa Archdicoesan Director of Social Communications,  and Fr. Ilde Dimaano, Director of DWAM-FM, Spirit Radio 99.1, were guest speakers at the 3rd  Msgr. Jose Buenaflor Memorial Media Forum, held at the John Paul Hall of the Archbishop’s Palace at Jaro, Iloilo.  

Redemptorists Kick off Mission at VSJ

(February 22, Sunday) — Two Redemptorist priests and two Perpetual Help sisters joined Fr. Nonie Dolor in the regular 8:00 am Sunday Mass at Villa San Jose to kick off what Fr. Nonie  called the “re-evangelization” of Villa San Jose.  In what was a very opportune way of preparing for the Year of St. Joseph,  the patron of this housing village  for the poor of the Archdiocese of Lipa.  According to Fr. Pete Katigbak, C.Ss.R., the coordinator of this “mission”,  they would “be living among the people, talk to them and listen to them.”  The four missionaries would be conducting house visitations and communally discern with the residents of Villa San Jose.  

Closing of Marian Year Slated for March 21

(February 18, 2009) –  The closing of the second of the three-year-preparation for the Centennial Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Lipa has been set to March 21, Saturday.  This was announced by Rev. Fr. Eyong Ramos, co-chair of the formation committee in charge of the whole year round of activities.  This was also presented and approved in a joint meeting of the Executive Committee for the Centennial Celebration and the Presbyteral Council, both chaired by His Excellency, Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles, DD,  held yesterday at his residence.  

Cardinal Rosales Blesses La Salle Lipa Chapel

(February 9, 2008, MOnday) — His Eminence, Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, Archbishop of Manila, was main celebrant in a Mass that served as the formal blessing of the newly-constructed school chapel of De La Salle Lipa.  shortly before the Mass started,  His Eminence graced the unvieling of the statue of St. John Baptist de la Salle at the entrance of the spacious and comfortable chapel.  In his homily,  Cardinal Rosales pointed out that the place where the chapel was built was really a holy ground, consecrated by the blood of Lipenos killed by the Japanese soldiers.  he also reminded the Lasallian family that the chapel is a sign of God’s presence in a community,  also a place of celebration, and a place that would reveal the character of Lipa Lasallians.  

Bauan Priests Raise Howl Over Cockpit

(January 31, 2009 – Saturday) – Priests who call themselves “Anak ng Bauan” join their townmates in this “Levitical town” in  their protest over the pending operation of a cockpit, the first ever to be constructed in this municipality, where beer is not served and sold at public places.  Today, Mayor Rhyan Dolor led his fellow public officials in dialoguing with representatives of the parish led by Fr. Carmelo Gozos, pastor of this town.
